SOS (Supply Our Students) Minimize
Free School Supply Give Away

In 2008 the Welcome Committee initiated the first annual "Free School Supply Give Away."  All necessary school supplies including backpacks were given out to 85 children attending grades K-5 at Columbus.  The response was overwhelming! It was obvious after the first night supplies were distributed this type of mission was truly needed by the children of our community.  After opening the doors at 5 PM all the supplies were gone to 50 students within 1/2 hour.  Additional supplies were purchasd to supply 35 more students the following evening. We had to turn 12 elementary and 22 secondary students away.  Advertising was only done through a flyer distributed during school registration to families qualifying for free/reduced school fees.  We served both English and Spanish speaking families.

Our goal this year is to supply 100 elementary and 30 secondary students with necessary supplies.  The estimated cost to meet this goal is $2,000.

The Welcome Committee is asking for monetary donations to support this mission.
